Carlos Fernández Hernández

PhD in Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Economic and Business Sciences from the University of La Laguna (ULL), a Social Graduate, and a Diploma in Business Administration and Management from the CICS of UNESCO. He is a professor in the area of Applied Economics and a member of the CajaCanarias-Ashotel Tourism Chair at ULL. His research lines focus on tourism economics, sustainability, and territorial development. He has publications and transfer projects on rural and local development; innovation, development, and evaluation of tourism products; labor market and analysis from a gender perspective. Professionally, he has worked in local development as an economist, director, and manager of various programs. He has contributed to the articulation and associative dynamization in the tourism sector: he has been a precursor of the Canary and Spanish rural tourism associations, the Institutional Cooperation Table for the development of astrotourism in La Palma, and has been director of the Agrotourism and Enotourism Chair of the Canary Islands at ICCA and the University of La Laguna. He was awarded the Tourism Excellence Award by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2017.
