
Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the University of La Laguna (accredited in 2023 as Full Professor by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation). He has been the Director of the CajaCanarias-ASHOTEL Tourism Chair at the University of La Laguna since 2012. He teaches in the subjects of Structure of Tourist Markets and in the Official Master’s in Tourism Management and Planning, of which he was director during the 2007-2008 academic year. He has been director of the PhD Program in Tourism at the University of La Laguna from 2010 to 2016. He has conducted extensive research on the tourism economy, particularly in the field of economic impacts and the Tourism Satellite Account, the measurement of tourism sustainability at the local level, and tourism development in island economies, resulting in numerous projects and research contracts, books, articles, conference participations, etc. The results of his research have appeared in journals such as Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Tourism Management, Tourism Economics, and International Journal of Tourism Research. He has been a member of the Working Group of Experts on Measuring Tourism Sustainability of the World Tourism Organization from 2016 to the present, actively participating in the development of the Statistical Framework for Measuring Tourism Sustainability, approved by the United Nations in 2024.
