The Global Summit affirms its steadfast commitment to sustainability and the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tirelessly working to generate a positive impact on our society and the environment. Below are the key aspects that reflect this commitment in the organization of the event:
sustainability pillars
event destination and venue
The University of La Laguna, located in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a World Heritage City known for its culture and Canarian architecture, offers the perfect setting to connect destination and visitor. Additionally, Tenerife, as a tourist destination, is committed to sustainability and holds the Biosphere Destination certification.
responsible accommodations
The selected hotels for the speakers’ accommodations incorporate various sustainability practices that align with the Sustainable Development Goals, including energy savings, efficient water management, waste separation and prevention programs, and a preference for local products and suppliers.
education and participation
The program includes knowledge exchange workshops in formats that invite active participation, as well as knowledge pitches on various innovative topics in the sector. Additionally, there will be a Green Corner to showcase the different sustainability pillars contemplated by the event.
food and beverages
Both food and beverages will come from local suppliers who closely collaborate with the primary sector to serve fresh, km0 products. Moreover, the tableware and utensils, as well as the presentation, will consist of compostable, recycled, or reusable materials, avoiding plastics and prioritizing natural materials.
waste management
Ecoembes containers will be implemented for the disposal of various plastic and cardboard waste; in addition, an organic waste container will be implemented, and returnable practices for glass containers will be established. University programs such as the Tree Project for collecting pen and specialized stationery waste will also be integrated.
energy and water
The University of La Laguna, through its ULL Sustainable Campus Program, aims to optimize resource use, upgrade to sustainable technologies, and promote renewable energy with 25 photovoltaic installations and 22 solar panels. The program also focuses on improving water management and providing environmental education through various institutional and corporate chairs.
transport
Collective transportation will be promoted, including taxis and buses, with facilities to prioritize tram travel. Additionally, the carbon footprint of the event will be offset for transportation emissions that produce CO2.
furniture and environmental design
The event’s furniture and design will leverage the reuse of existing resources from the university. Additionally, a green corner will be created with sustainable furniture to highlight this focus. Digital formats will be used to inform attendees, minimizing waste generation.
