City of La Laguna

San Cristobal de La Laguna is the second biggest city in the island of Tenerife and it is an important historical centre. La Laguna has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 and is considered a “unique example of an unwalled colonial city”.

The original 15th century layout remains almost intact, just as it was depicted by Master Leonardo Torriani in his map of La Laguna. The city was also used as a template for the colonial cities founded in America, such as Old Havana, Lima and Cartagena, which is why their houses and streets looks so similar.

Since the island Tenerife is a tourist destination it is well connected by air. There are two airports, one in the north (TFN) and one in the south (TFS) of the island. Many European cities have direct flights to the airport Tenerife South (check low cost airlines). Alternatively, you can opt for a transfer from one of the main Spanish airports (especially Madrid Barajas) to reach your final destination.

It should be noted that the airport Tenerife North is located closer to the conference venue, so it is highly recommended to travel to this airport.

visa requirements

As part of Spain, Tenerife is within the EU and the Schengen area. The entry requirements differ, depending on whether you are travelling to Tenerife from another Schengen member state, an EU country that is not part of the Schengen area, or a third country.

Tenerife Entry Requirements for Citizens of Schengen EU countries

Passport / ID Card: EU citizens who are travelling within the Schengen area are required to show a passport or national identity card for travel. However, you will still need to bring one of these documents with you, as foreigners who are on Spanish territory are obligated to carry valid proof of identity with them.

Tenerife Entry Requirements for Citizens of Non-EU / Non-Schengen countries

Since the end of the Brexit transition period on 31/12/2020, this includes the UK.

Passport: You will need a passport to be able to travel to Tenerife. It is important to check the age and expiry date to ensure that it is valid for travel.

Visa on short trips: The visa requirements for Tenerife will vary, depending on your nationality. Citizens of many countries do not currently require a visa if they visit Tenerife as a tourist for short trips. Please consult your country policies for travelling to Spain.
